Bromley Cross is situated in the north of Bolton and is surrounded by beautiful views across countryside and the West Pennine Moors. The name Bromley Cross comes from an ancient cross which once stood in the village which was originally called Kershaw’s cross after a local tenant farmer. Kershaw’s landlords were a family called Bromley (or Bromiley), and they owned a substantial amount of land in Harwood and Bradshaw. The cross which no longer stands, was renamed Bromley Cross after the wealthy landowners. During the 19th century, Bromley Cross was part of Bradshaw which in 1898 became part of the district of Turton. Today, Bromley Cross is a separate village in its own right.

Bromley Cross is about 3 miles from Bolton town centre. There is a train station which links to Clitheroe, Blackburn, Bolton and Manchester. Neighbouring villages include Egerton, Edgworth, Bradshaw and Harwood. The village has a good variety of shops and pubs, and good schooling including Turton High School which has an outstanding reputation.
