The area of Ladybridge and Beaumont is a relatively newly developed area. Before the Ladybridge housing estate was built, Carlisle Farm spread across much of the area. Ladybridge has a specialist sports college and its own youth football club with 30 teams. Areas neighbouring are Lostock, Hunger Hill, Rumworth, Heaton and Deane.

The names Ladybridge and Beaumont are linked to Lady Beaumont whose families (The Tempests and The Stapletons) were prominent in the area. In the twelfth century, The Tempest family of Yorkshire and Lancashire were founders  of the Priory of Bolton. Ethel Mary Tempest married Miles Stapleton, the 10th Lord Beaumont of Carlton Towers, in 1892. Their daughter, Mona Josephine Tempest Stapleton, inherited the Bolton and Carlton Towers estates when less than a year old and inherited the title of the 11th Baroness  of Beaumont in 1896.
